Encounter Anecdote
The breach alarm didn’t trip until the hallway folded into neat right angles that hadn’t existed a moment before. Then the air filled with faint blue lines, like chalk on glass, sketching a humanoid shape that stepped out of the wall itself. The Compendium Agent’s last note before retreat simply read: “It’s not chasing us. It’s correcting us.”

Physical Description
The Lattice Warden appears as a humanoid figure formed from intersecting planes of faintly luminous lines, as though its body were drawn in midair with glowing ink. From some angles it looks solid and glasslike; from others, nearly invisible. Its edges snap into crisp geometry, limbs forming from right angles and sigils that rearrange themselves with quiet clicks. When still, it resembles an architectural diagram suspended upright.
Overview
A quintessential magical construct, the Lattice Warden is animated by bound glyphs and directive logic rather than thought or spirit. It possesses no will or emotion, only purpose: define a boundary, enforce it, and correct violations. Classified as mindless and magical, it demonstrates how arcane energy can produce predictable, rule-based behavior similar to a machine. In settings without overt magic, it may be interpreted as hard-light technology, an automated defense system, or an unexplained spatial anomaly that manifests “solid light.”
Encounter Frequency and Usage
Wardens are most often encountered guarding restricted spaces—vaults, tombs, laboratories, or dimensional fault lines. They do not pursue targets beyond their assigned perimeter but become relentless within it, reshaping terrain to block escape or channel intruders. In Altered Dimensions campaigns, they commonly appear around stabilized breaches or abandoned containment sites. Many are effectively previously unencountered, activating only when a threshold is crossed or an old command is triggered.
